Here are OtherInbox we are always looking at ways to make your email life even easier. With the latest update we have introduced a new tab in Organizer for our Yahoo! users called the Dashboard.

Like the Daily Digest the Dashboard groups your emails into categories, like Offers, Shipping Notices,  Social Updates and Travel etc.

Looking for a special offer? Need to find that confirmation code in a hurry? Keeping up with your busy social life? then the Dashboard is your new best friend! The Dashboard also has “Quick click” links, which take you directly into the action without having to open the email first. Got a friend request? Just click on “Accept” from the dashboard to jump directly to Facebook.

To take a look at your own email Dashboard just click on Automatic Organizer in the list of applications inside Yahoo! mail.

New in Unsubscriber: emails marked as read http://startupdistrict.com/items/view/1052/new-in-unsubscriber-emails-marked-as-read

About a month ago we launch our new Unsubscriber product for Yahoo! mail. The easiest way to unsubscribe from those pesky newsletters and promotional emails, by just moving them into the Unsubscribe folder. No user names or passwords to remember, just peace of mind and a cleaner Inbox. It has been a huge success with over 550k emails being moved into the Unsubscribe folder everyday. The majority of the feedback that we’ve received is praise for the application along with some suggestions on how to improve it. The most common being that emails in the Unsubscribe folder should not be counted as unread. Seems you don’t like to be reminded that those emails ever existed! So now, if Unsubscriber moves an email out of your way, it will mark it as “read” as well. Your Unread count will no longer include emails moved by Unsubscriber. This only affects new emails that are processed, so if your Unsubscribe folder has unread emails in it and you want to clean it up, just follow these simple steps; 1. Open the folder list, by clicking on the triangle next to the word folder. 2. Click on the Unsubscribe folder. 3. Select all the emails in the folder. 4. From the actions menu select “Mark as Read”. Note that any unread emails that you manually move into the unsubscribe folder will not automatically marked as read. Don’t be shy about letting us know what else we can do to improve your Unsubscriber experience. Simply drop us an email at help@otherinbox.com, tweet us on Twitter or post up on Facebook!

Delete, archive or… hoard? 5 reasons most people hang on to their email… http://startupdistrict.com/items/view/1047/delete-archive-or-hoard-5-reasons-most-people-hang-on-to-their-email

Last month, to celebrate our 1 millionth signup, we asked you about your email IQ or Inbox Quotient. We asked the question “Are you a Hoarder, a Shopper, a Socialite, or a Pro?” We have to say we were a bit surprised by the results!

51% of the respondents said they were email hoarders. Hoarders hold on to everything and rarely delete anything outta their inbox. They have little reason to really. Webmail products such as Gmail, Yahoo!, AOL and Hotmail keep adding storage so we have been conditioned to think that we should never delete anything. In the new consumer cloud, there is more than enough space for all those things you might have to go back and dig out of your inbox. Why do hoarders have a hard time getting rid of emails? Here’s 5 things that might be driving our collective non action. 5- Cluelessness- Some peeps have no idea what is going on in their inbox. They just know they have a lot of email! 4- Reference- Sometimes you gotta go back and check the tape. 3- Phone numbers and addresses – What was that phone number again? 2- Attachments- That photo of your cute nephew on the pony? He can’t ride that pony anymore. 1- Laziness- We got all the hard drive space in the world, right? Right? Whatever reason you have for holding on to email, we got your back with Organizer! Organizer is perfect for making sense of those less-than-important messages you get by automatically organizing them into folders and leaving space in your inbox for all the other stuff you probably won’t get around to deleting or archiving anytime soon. =)

Girl walks into Gmail with Organizer… Getting my dad Organized! http://startupdistrict.com/items/view/1043/girl-walks-into-gmail-with-organizer-getting-my-dad-organized

After a call on Father’s Day, I planned to set up Organizer for my Dad. With 15,000 plus emails in his inbox, he had been pretty close to email overload for quite some time! Dad’s Gmail is mainly for his work as an attorney, so while Organizer did not automatically create folders for all the court notifications and seminar updates that usually flood his inbox, we were able to easily create the custom folders he needed!

So we set up two new folders for his countless ACDLA and Alacourt emails. In Gmail, under “manage labels” we created a new label – OIB ACDLA and OIB Alacourt. I was sure to nest it under the OIB folder so Dad’s sidebar stays nice and neat! Then we took a look at all the fluff. You know, the stuff my dad doesn’t care about but for some reason he just ignores when it comes in. Yep, it was time for the OIB Unsubscribe folder!

We unsubscribed my Dad from a newsletter he’s had in his inbox since 2007. He couldn’t believe it was so easy to get rid of. Now he can safely and easily unsubscribe from stuff anytime! So we started with 15,000 emails in Dad’s inbox…  After Organizer? 200! My Dad is very very pleased! And with his email straightened out, Mom is happy too – especially since Dad won’t be asking her “did you delete that email?” Mom is an highly organized individual. Dad?  Well, not so much… but now at least his gmail account can be!

Set your email free! Unsubscribe quick, safe and easy with Unsubscriber for Yahoo! Mail http://startupdistrict.com/items/view/1038/set-your-email-free-unsubscribe-quick-safe-and-easy-with-unsubscriber-for-yahoo-mail

Online marketers use the term “capture” to describe an email acquired either via an online purchase, sign-up page or even good ol’ slips of paper in an acrylic box. “Capture” is the word commonly used to convey this approach to marketing. It’s as if we’re holding the e-mail address hostage. – Says Eric Groves of Constant Contact,
So what do you do when you no longer want your email address held hostage? At OtherInbox, we think you should be able to quickly and easily set your email free! That’s why we created the Unsubscribe Folder in Organizer and its new, stand alone cousin, Unsubscriber.

The stand alone Unsubscriber app is currently just for Yahoo! Mail users (if you use Gmail or AOL, Organizer already has it built in!) and it’s the easiest way to remove your email address from a mailing list. Period. To install, simply click on the Unsubscriber link in the lower left hand side of your Yahoo Mail application list. Then click “Create my Unsubscribe Folder” to create a new folder called, what else, Unsubscribe. Move or “Drag and drop” the offending email into your Unsubscribe folder and we’ll get right to work on removing you from that sender’s mailing list. You’ll also notice that we will place any subsequent messages from that sender in the “Unsubscribe” folder UNTIL we can get you removed. Eventually, they’ll just stop. So go ahead, try it on. Don’t have Yahoo! Mail? It’s in Organizer for Gmail and AOL too!

Yahoo! Mail rolls out new webmail with Organizer as a feature! http://startupdistrict.com/items/view/1014/yahoo-mail-rolls-out-new-webmail-with-organizer-as-a-feature

Everyday, we read a LOT of industry press. Our RSS feed is a nerdy Neapolitan mix of QR codes, Techcrunch/ Mashable, app reviews, white papers and the like. Every now and then, some hypewriter will resurface the ol’ “Email is dead” story and we all get a ‘lil chuckle but this week… this week is different. This week, Email is alive and well! This week Yahoo! announced the latest updates to their 284 million strong webmail product with our very own Organizer among the list of features! In Yahoo! Organizer is known as Automatic Organizer.

And what great timing! In about 10 days or so we will have surpassed our 1 millionth sign-up and don’t see any slow down in sight. People dig having their inbox organized, prioritized and summarized! Why upgrade webmail? Have you ever wondered why Yahoo!, Google and Microsoft’s Hotmail would continue to add services and updates to the webmail format while folks claim the end is nigh? The fact of the matter is, email is a great entry point for content and a lead in for other service offerings. Yahoo!, Google, Microsoft Hotmail and, of course AOL, all benefit from having millions of people pass through their portals on the way to their messages. Need proof? This April, Yahoo! Blogs delivered 506 MILLION page views. That’s more than any other blogging network including Huffington Post, Gawker, Word Press and Blogger. Huge! Try out the new Yahoo! Mail! So Yahoo users rejoice! Upgrade today, try it on and find your next email Nirvana! Our money’s on that it will include some automation…. Like Organizer!

As we near 1 MILLION users, OtherInbox wants to know – “What’s YOUR IQ?” http://startupdistrict.com/items/view/1008/as-we-near-1-million-users-otherinbox-wants-to-know-whats-your-iq

OtherInbox has been helping people manage their email in one way or another since 2008. Our flagship product, Organizer has really resonated with email users all over the web. In fact, we are happy to announce that sometime in the next couple of weeks we will surpass our 1 MILLIONTH sign-up! That’s right, OtherInbox Organizer has nearly a million subscribers!

We’ve organized countless emails, helping our users keep their inboxes in tip top shape with our automatic organization, Daily Digest and the super simple Unsubscribe Folder! WHAT HAVE WE LEARNED? With nearly ONE MILLION USERS later, we have learned a couple of things… 1- Spam is not a huge issue. Bacn is! Email and internet service providers have really cracked down on spam. Take a look at your spam folder and you’ll see just how good webmail has gotten at catching your salty, spicy ham flavored emails! So that leaves bacn. Bacn is all those things you willingly sign up for (but don’t have time to read) and is the real problem most people have in their inbox! 2- We’ve learned simplicity is key. Make things easy for someone and they respond. Organizer is super easy to use, that’s why people like it. Someone called our 1-step Unsubscribe Folder the greatest thing since the addition of the RFC 2369 header! Nerd alert!- RFC 2369 is the header in an email that allows a recipient to unsubscribe from an email list. 3- People’s inboxes are unique. Some people hold onto everything, some are at Inbox Zero or close. Some peeps sign up for everything and read everything, others sign up for everything and read nothing and still others are so meticulous about who they sign up for, that their email inbox is like a dietitian’s refrigerator; nothing but leafy green archives and turkey everything. WHATS YOUR IQ? So, based on what we’ve seen, we think our users fall into one of four types of email personas. The Hoarder, the Pro, the Shopper and the Socialite. Now, everyone uses their email for personal messaging and some peeps are more than one type of profile but some habits are hard to ignore. Habits such as…

How soon they delete or archive email…. if ever! Whether they use labels, filters or folders. How many different senders they subscribe to.

These characteristics and more can make up what we call your INBOX QUOTIENT or simply, IQ. It’s not a number and it’s not scientific but it is an interesting way to think about your email habits and how you might improve them. Over the next couple of weeks we’ll look at what makes a Pro tick, why Hoarders may not ever get rid of an old email, what do Shoppers really want and finally, explore a Socialite’s obsession with how many twitter followers they might have! We are very excited to be on the verge of one million users! Not many technology startups can do that and we are leading the pack in the online email application space. If you are among the more than 950,000 Organizer users, thanks! If not, please try Organizer and divide and conquer your inbox! Keep an eye on Twitter and Facebook in the next couple of weeks! Sharing YOUR IQ just might win you something sweet to read your emails on!

Girl walks into Gmail with Organizer… and unsubscribes from the fluff! http://startupdistrict.com/items/view/991/girl-walks-into-gmail-with-organizer-and-unsubscribes-from-the-fluff

Hello again!  I’ve been having fun the last couple weeks playing with my OIB folders to make them do exactly what I want them to do, which is help keep me on top of the things I want to see and do! So, now it’s festival season and the next one in the lineup for me is the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival!  Which means out with the old (SXSW) and in with the new (Jazzfest).

So how do I enable my inbox to keep me up to speed with my next adventure? Well, we already looked at how keeping custom folders helps me stay on top of certain messages. Organizer is a lot easier than manually setting up filters in Gmail. AHEM- Don’t get me wrong, I can set up filters just fine, Organizer just makes it so easy! =) But if setting up folders helps you maintain where your messages go, the Unsubscribe Folder helps you maintain that they stay away when you do not need them anymore! I simply move the SXSW newsletters I no longer want to receive into the Unsubscribe Folder and ta-da! Gone. I don’t think about them again, for it has gone far, far away from my inbox, making room for other things….. Like Jazzfest! So how do I know I’ve been unsubbed? Well, on April 9th I put some of my SXSW newsletters in the Unsubscribe Folder and on April 11th I received a notification that I had been unsubscribed.  How’s that for a quick turn around? So bye-bye Filter Magazine. I won’t need you again until next year.  Farewell Fader Fort, it was awesome while it lasted.  Hello Jazzfest and SuperflyPresents! I’ll see you all in my entertainment folder, soon! Till next time, Ally.

Inbox spring cleaning made easier. The Unsubscribe Folder gets a new update! http://startupdistrict.com/items/view/987/inbox-spring-cleaning-made-easier-the-unsubscribe-folder-gets-a-new-update

We know that you all love the OIB Unsubscribe Folder for its simplicity and ease of use…. And what’s not to love? It’s super simple. If you can drag n drop or label an email, you’re done! It’s a major time and effort saver! In January we calculated that we save our users over 43 days every WEEK! (feel free to check our math!) The emails are not just hidden, we actually work in the background to get you removed from that list! Yeah, we are mighty proud of the Unsubscribe Folder. But some of you asked if it was possible to not send out  a confirmation email every time you drop an email into the folder. So… DRUMROLL PLEEZ ….NOW you can control that! On the application settings page scroll down to the Notifications section and now you can opt in/out of getting the unsubscribe confirmation emails. See below-

Simple as that, you ask, we listen. OtherInbox’s Unsubscribe Folder! Because you might want the Dave Matthews’s Grilled Cheese Recipe Database Newsletter for a little while but, after the tour, you might like to be able to unsubscribe as if it never happened. =) What do you think about the mighty, mighty Unsubscribe Folder? Unsubbed from anything interesting lately? Chime in, any number of ways…

A tale of two pork flavored emails: The difference between spam and bacn. http://startupdistrict.com/items/view/927/a-tale-of-two-pork-flavored-emails-the-difference-between-spam-and-bacn

We still see folks react strangely to those two pork flavored email messages; Spam and bacn. Both are trying to persuade, inform or sell you something. Both can make checking your email a chore. And of course, both are delicious when served between two pieces of bread with some lettuce. Yum! Wait… scratch that. Let’s break it down into tiny, tasty morsels. SPAM We know a lot about spam. By definition, spam is unsolicited email notifications.

You did not ask for it, it just shows up like a pushy party crasher, offering you cheap meds, vacation deals and more. Our initial product Defender was somewhat of an invisible shield for spam! It allowed a user multiple email addresses to combat spammers at the point of acquisition. When someone asked for your email, you made one up on the spot and then you could easily keep track of who sold your name. In other words, if you gave your email addy to a restaurant and then noticed an email from them concerning male, ahem, “enhancement”, you knew right away that they had a breach or just flat out sold your name and you could block them easily! Empowering? Yes. Awesome? Totally! But, as often happens in science fiction, the machines got smarter, so we had to follow suit and create something new…. Yep, Organizer but we will come back to that.Gmail, AOL, Yahoo! and other email providers all made spam a top priority! Senders? Blocked. IP addresses? Blacklisted. Criminal keystrokes? Curbed. You may have noticed they were slowed. Perhaps you thought to yourself-“Hey! Whatever happened to that Nigerian Prince? I guess he found help with that bank transfer. Good for him!”Well, don’t be too concerned for him, he is still looking for help. Your email service provider just has him looking elsewhere! (Thanks guys.)The problem with spam is… it’s very profitable. It goes out. People click. Simple as that, supply and demand. So, as I mentioned above, while spam might NOT be dead, it is somewhat under control. So why are people’s inboxes still under barrage? Why do we still need help with the endless flow of messages coming at us? It’s called bacn, and we asked for it!BACNBacn is all those things we sign up for. By definition, bacn is solicited email notifications. And bacn is good for us.

In a lot of ways, bacn is the most basic transactional currency of the web. It’s the newsletter from your kid’s school, the mortgage notification, the receipt from Zappos, the Twitter updates, the authorization for new accounts and all those things we want and need to make the web work for us. In short, your email notifications are how you know things are working as you dictate. Unlike spam, if your bacn stops… EVENTUALLY YOU WILL NOTICE!So… We like to sign up for things. So, we get a lot of bacn. Deliciously important things, but not as important as the email from your friend, boss, kids, or, you know, things with a pulse! But it all goes to the same place. Your inbox. So what is the best way to handle the flow? Filters of course!Filters allow you to channel your e-mails into designated folders. They gather things according to rules that you set up in advance. But rules can change. ANY number of things may affect your rules-  you’ll add new senders, or senders change their names or the senders change their subject lines, the list goes on. Filters can be a bummer to stay on top of even for the most geekiest of geeks…. Trust me on this one.Organizer is a great way to avoid constantly re-arranging your rules and getting your email to work the way you like. I mean, that’s why we built it as such and why nearly three-quarters of a million people agree! But I digress- This post is about the virtual pork in our inbox. Ahem, so-Let’s review-1. An email from Facebook announcing that the event “Pork Fest 2011″ has been postponed. Spam or bacn? 2. An email from “Pharmaceutical Pam” offering amazing discounts on Cialis. Spam or bacn? 3. A coupon for one dollar off of your favorite brand of bacon from your local supermarket. Spam or bacn? 4. A animated atrocity that promises to reveal other “pork product fetishists” in YOUR area. Spam or bacn? 5. A receipt from your pharmacy for the refill of Cialis that you need to pick up. Spam or bacn? 6. A newsletter from Hormel announcing the winners of the top Spam recipes of 2011. (You are a card carrying Spamaholic) Spam or bacn? If you answered 2 and 4 as spam, you are correct! If on the off chance they actually made it into your inbox, mark ‘em as spam and move on. Lastly, what if you no longer want to receive or feel overwhelmed by the bacn you get?Spam and bacn are different so treat them differently! The rules of engagement for your bacn is simple. If you no longer want your bacn, don’t mark it as spam! Unsubscribe from it.Unsubscribe using their embedded unsubscribe link or using Organizer’s simple  Unsubscribe Folder. When you mark legitimate and solicited emails as spam it can affect the way your email client will handle further emails you DO want. Not to mention, sending spam is a crime, sending someone the notifications they asked for is not! If you want your bacn, but need to get to it later, use filters or let Organizer do the work for you. It’s easy for us and it’s what we do.Seriously, if you have read this far, you are looking for a solution to your perfectly normal bacn hoarding issue. Let Organizer put it in a nice folder until you can come back around to it!I hope this quick primer was helpful in helping you do the right thing next time you go through your inbox. Remember, proper engagement is key but the right tools too can make things much easier and save you time for the words you really want to read.Have you ever clicked on something and instantly regretted it? What’s your favorite cheesy spam line? Share below, on Facebook or tweet us about it!Good luck out there!

Like most of you guys, I love my smartphone. It’s the first and last thing I see everyday. A portal to the world in a tiny screen, a flashlight , a task manager, a time waster and a mobile desktop. Recently, I forgot my iPhone at home and it was like I left my head on the kitchen table. All day I kept reaching for my little, rectangular communication tool. As my co-workers checked their screens, I found myself constantly checking my right palm, pretending to read a widescreen display of my Twitter feed. I’ve heard how people suffer from phantom limb…. I believe it!And why shouldn’t I feel so lost without it? We all spend a ton of our time looking at our little screens. In fact, below is a great chart that shows some interesting data from Nielsen Ratings. In a nutshell, nearly half of our time on our mobile devices is spent interacting with…Drumroll please…. EMAIL.

Yes, email… The messaging system of yesterday, on the devices of today. NOTE- We already knew this but we love seeing our favorite topics visualized. Email lives and we take it everywhere we go! That’s why we’ve recently made sure our time saving Daily Digest looks so pristine on your iPhone. Take a look for yourself!

The font and images have to look great because reading the Daily Digest on your mobile phone is the best way to see in a glance what you’ve got in your email. It’s a great combination!

Scroll down and notice the layout shows you the info you need quickly and in order. Sweet!

So hit your email on your iPhone, we are there, Organizing! One look at the improved Daily Digest on your smart phone and you have saved a little time and effort, giving you even more opportunity to check your Facebook, read Twitter or play “Birds with Friends.” Note- Oops. I meant “Angry Birds” and “Words with Friends”… I always do that!Have a great weekend!

Your top New Year’s resolution? Get Organized! http://startupdistrict.com/items/view/911/your-top-new-years-resolution-get-organized

Whoa… The holidays have taken their toll and we are all recovering from the food, family and fun overload that is the week between Christmas and New Years. Right about now, we start looking around ourselves…. Assessing and taking inventory of all that is around us.“What if this year I stopped doing that one thing?” or“What if this year I started doing this other thing?”That’s right, I’m talking about New Year’s Resolutions! You know those annual commitments nearly half of us make and then 80% of us abandon them like the strawberry pink in a carton of Neopolitan ice cream. Well, it turns out we are pretty susceptible to the idea of a fresh start, a new dawn, the next page, a clean slate, a new carton of Neopolitan ice cream. Oh, we’ll set out with the best intentions alright, determined to better ourselves against all odds, temptations and roadblocks. Fired up, we’ll compare our New Year changes with others over black eyed peas. How we will resolve to lose something, gain something or begin something all anew! But by February or even mid-January, those lucky peas wear off. Most of us will ditch our grand schemes because the human animal is at best, comfortable and at worst, stubborn! For those of us who want to get more focused in the new year, more organized, it can be a real struggle. It’s easiest to just keep about our business and accept that our workspace, calendar and usually our inbox is in perpetual disarray, never knowing the bliss of the organizer’s mantra: “A place for everything and everything in it’s place.”Well, we think the problem is simple….we can all use a hand! A digital assistant! What if there was indeed an “app for that?” A tool that worked in the background and ensured you were keeping at least one of your resolutions intact. Again,  a digital assistant!Well, that app, tool, assistant is our very own Organizer! Organizer is the absolute best at finding a place for all of those emails that just are not that important…. but are! Receipts, coupons, shipping notices, newsletters, updates, follows, likes and all the stuff we sign up for as we surf the web are placed in their categorized folders, automatically! Then, like an unpaid intern or a high paid assistant, we’ll send you a Daily Digest of your email activity so you can quickly scan it on your own time. (Likely with tea and crumpets, coffee and danish or, if you are in Austin, perhaps a red bull and breakfast taco.)

Your Organizer “assistant” will highlight the most important things in your digest by placing them right up on top! What a great help Organizer turned out to be. (You didn’t even need Craigslist!)Oh noes!- What if you are being hassled by a newsletter you no longer want, read or need? Well, your Organizer “assistant” has got that covered too.By simply placing something in your OIB Unsubscribe Folder, you are asking your Organizer “assistant” to contact that sender and politely request they stop sending you correspondence! That’s it. You’ve just sent a cease and desist letter in one click.Kinda nice to have an “assistant” who is knowledgeable in FTC CAN-SPAM laws huh? =)So, keep that New Year’s resolution to get organized! It’s easy with Organizer. Let’s quickly recap!1- Resolve to get Organized!2- Sign up for Organizer.3- Let Organizer do it’s thing on your funky inbox. TIP- Clean up your workspace while Organizer scans and moves things into place.4- Move the email you no longer want to receive into your new OIB/Unsubscribe folder.5- Tell everyone how you stuck to it this year and enjoy your new, organized inbox! What else will you resolve to change? How about improving your Google search?Fill us in! We want to know how you made your New Year’s resolutions stick in 2011….Email us at help@otherinbox.com, ping us at @OtherInbox on twitter or hook up on Facebook. See ya next year!

November recap- Email reigns and OtherInbox shines! http://startupdistrict.com/items/view/901/november-recap-email-reigns-and-otherinbox-shines

Last week, as we at OtherInbox HQ (OIB) watched November melt away under the Austin sun, we took a respite, gathered and realized… Holy Kaw! November was a tremendous month for us! The tech topic of the month was, our specialty, email. We like when people talk email because it so very rarely gets any of the tech spotlight. It’s the kind of thing whose weight you don’t notice until it’s down or unavailable! But alas, we still take it for granted, bitch about it even! Folks talk about how it’s an ancient, dying art and sing the praises of the new sleeker, faster and younger communique… however they do it all …via email! Facebook, aol, InboxLove…. All kinds of cool email things went down last month and our increased traffic and sign-up rates reflect how OIB is very well regarded in this topic!aolFirst, by about 12 hours and on a Sunday, aol beats Facebook to a major email announcement, unveiling Project Phoenix, their revamped aol mail coming early next year.Phoenix now offers a improved, beautiful interface, media rich features, cross messaging and more. I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks and think it’s amazing! It’s very well thought out from a UX (user experience) standpoint and works great! Note-Having an email suffix like @love.com is also super cool! From Business Insider.com- “Email remains one of the most vital communication tools despite all of the new sites and apps available to consumers today,” said Brad Garlinghouse, President of AOL’s Consumer Applications Group. “There is still so much innovation to be done in the space and Project Phoenix is just the beginning. We see a huge opportunity to disrupt email in a big way. AOL is the company that brought everyone online, and now we’re making it simpler and more enjoyable to be there.”Bring it Brad. We love it so far! FacebookThe very next day, Facebook live streamed a press conference and announced their “Project Titan.” Now, we’ll assume you know all about this aggregate messaging system and likely have even tried it. Project Titan has been talked about by pretty much everyone in the tech biz. Here, CNET’s Rafe Needleman is brought in to give his insights.

So maybe it was not the “Gmail Killer” the press made it out to be, but we think the model is definitely cool, disruptive to the status quo and a great way to stay in touch with people. Especially IF your mom, dad and friends are all on Facebook. (Great play on FB’s part to help ensure sign-ups.) InboxLoveLater that same week, we were in San Jose for InboxLove, a joint venture by ourselves OtherInbox, Jared Goralnick, founder of AwayFind and 500 Startups.InboxLove was a series of moderated talks and discussions, held over a fancy dinner, all about one thing: Email.InboxLove was attended by all the big email players! Yahoo!, Hotmail, Gmail, and yes, even Facebook. InboxLove was a big hit and, save the date and submit your proposal, will be back in 2011! All this email talk meant our guy, Joshua Baer, was in high demand! ReadWriteWeb and yes, even Rafe Needleman reported on Organizer and called on us! “So what’s the future of email? Is email dead?”That was the query of the month. We saw it everywhere. “We don’t think that a modern messaging system is going to be email.” said Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg. We might agree, except for the fact that we really like email! It allows us to get back to people on our own time. We can sign up for marketing or commercial correspondence and read them when we want. (Do you really want texts or IMs from your favorite online merchants?) An email string allows us to keep a running track of how a project or day is going. Finally, we’d be remiss without the subject line! The subject line helps quickly establish context and audience. I mean, crafting a well-thought-out and effective subject line is one of the best things about having to work within the confines of well… Work! No one ever told me “Nice text J-Ro. Very succinct and professional. We got the account!” LOLEmail simply needs a little help and perhaps some improved rules of engagement. For now, it is made much better and more productive by smarter filtering and organization. Which is exactly why we are here and why last month was so turbo with press and analytic activity for us here at OtherInbox…. Because… email still rulz. And you can’t get twitter, Facebook, flickr, myspace, hi-5, WordPress, iTunes or anything without authenticating with and keeping up with, what else, your email address. So, go ahead. Sign up for whatever. We got your back with Organizer. What do you think? What’s the future of email? Comment below, here, there or everywhere. PS- I still miss Google Wave.

OtherInbox Organizer on CNET’S Rafe’s Radar http://startupdistrict.com/items/view/895/otherinbox-organizer-on-cnets-rafes-radar

Last week, Rafe Needleman, editor at CNET, tried out our very own Organizer for Gmail and wrote a great article about his experience. He called Organizer, “a solid, useful, and free solution for managing the influx of semi-wanted email.”

He covers shipping notices and our ability to add them to your calendar and talks about some things we have in beta like helping deal with expired coupons and much more. Overall, we were pretty stoked to see that Rafe simply “gets” Organizer. He points out it saves time and effort in setting up manual, non-learning filters and used one of our favorite misnomers… Bacn. “The Organizer service is just great,” Rafe said. “I turned it on and it auto-filed more than 10,000 emails from my previously unmanaged Gmail inbox that had about 33,000 messages in it. It’s kept up with new mail, too, alerting me when it sees a new sender that it can handle for me“.Rafe quickly trained Organizer to file tech-related emails to file into a sub folder. Wow!

We are really excited to read this directly from Rafe. Knowing we helped him manage what must be a TON of tech emails fills us with geeky, techy glee! We hear Rafe tried OtherInbox in the very beginning and we were happy to see he has been keeping in touch with Organizer. Finally, Rafe includes his November 19th Reporters’ Roundtable interview on the future of e-mail, with our guy Joshua Baer and Altimeter’s Charlene Li-

So what’s your two cents? How might you have written Rafe’s post? Let us know in the comments below, email us at help@otherinbox.com, tweet us @otherinbox or join us on facebook and tell us all about your experience.

How to manage your Senders in Organizer http://startupdistrict.com/items/view/894/how-to-manage-your-senders-in-organizer

Every day Organizer manages emails from thousands and thousands of email “senders”. With Organizer you’re empowered to better manage these email senders in many ways. How? Let’s say you want to add a new sender that Organizer is not sorting, like your local PTA newsletter or you want to stop organizing emails from a sender because you’d rather those emails go straight to your inbox or, even rename a sender to include extra info or another name altogether so you can better keep track of why that particular sender emails you. Sounds like a dream right? In this post we’ll explain step by step the best ways to manage your email senders in Organizer. How do I start organizing messages from a new sender? When you a message with an OIB label or place it in an OIB folder, you are telling OIB to start organizing messages from that same sender going forward! It really is that simple… Organizer for Yahoo! Mail If you use Organizer for Yahoo! Mail, find an email from the sender you want to organize, click on “Move” and then choose an OIB folder. The next time Automatic Organizer scans your account, you will receive an email confirming that messages from that sender will be filed the same way. Need to create a new folder? See here!

Organizer for Gmail In Gmail for example, if you label a message sent from “WSJ.com Editors” with “OIB/News”, going forward, all messages from “WSJ.com Editors” will be labeled the same way and archived in Gmail.

How do I stop organizing messages from a sender? Let’s say you no longer want Organizer to sort certain senders so that those messages go to your inbox. It’s easy to adjust, but it works differently in Gmail and Yahoo! Mail. Also, removing a label or moving a message back to the inbox will not change the settings automatically, follow the steps below. Yahoo! Mail first. Organizer for Yahoo! Mail Yahoo! Mail users can easily change settings from within their Yahoo! Mail client! Open Automatic Organizer (bottom left) and locate the sender in your sender list. Uncheck the box next to its name and look for the confirmation message to confirm your change. From now on, messages from that sender will be ignored by Automatic Organizer and stay in your Inbox.

Organizer for Gmail To turn off the organizing of messages from a particular sender: – Log in to OtherInbox: https://my.otherinbox.com/ - On the Senders list, find the sender you want to stop organizing - Uncheck the box next to the sender’s name. Done. -Don’t forget to pat yourself on the back for taking control of your inbox!

How to change the name of a sender ? Let’s say you want to add a qualifier to a sender. In the example below, the qualifier “checking account” is added to the sender “Bank of America” to note what account that is. From then on, your renamed sender will show in the list and in your Daily Digests. It can really help when you have senders that are similarly named! Renaming a sender is easy. Again, let’s look at Yahoo! Mail first! Organizer for Yahoo! Mail Open the Automatic Organizer application (bottom left) and locate the sender that you want to change. Click the sender name and it will become an editable field. Type in the new name, then click OK to save. Done!

Organizer for Gmail First, log in to OtherInbox and view the Senders page. Click on the name of a sender to edit the name. Be sure to click Save.

Would you also like to create an OIB Customized folder in your email account? It’s all right here! What do you think? What are you doing with the customizing power Organizer offers? How about the time you are saving? Any interesting hobbies picked up? Let us know in the comments below, email us at help@otherinbox.com, tweet us @otherinbox, or join us on Facebook and give us suggestions for a tip of the week. Your idea may make the blog soon!
